Our standards
We, the doctors at the Erlangen Sperm Bank, only use sperm samples from qualified and trustworthy donors, whose suitability for sperm donation has been determined by us personally, both in terms of health examinations and in terms of their character maturity and motivation.
In addition, we strictly adhere to the guidelines of the German Association for Donor Insemination, which represents all physicians and institutions in Germany involved in the collection, storage and processing of donor sperm.
Treatment with our samples can be performed either at our affiliated Kinderwunsch Erlangen or at a Center for Reproductive Medicine near your home.
Through thorough pre-screening and careful selection, only high quality semen samples from healthy and trustworthy donors are offered.
Regular donor testing and 6-month quarantine storage of semen samples ensure that all semen samples used are free from the risk of infection with Hepatitis, AIDS, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Cytomegaly and Chlamydia.
All sperm donors are tested for transmission of the hereditary disease cystic fibrosis.
A random sample of each frozen sperm donation is thawed and the quality of the sperm is checked after thawing and processing. Donations that do not meet quality requirements after thawing are discarded.
The nationwide sperm donor register has been in place since July 2018. It stores personal details of sperm donors and recipients in connection with medically assisted artificial insemination for 110 years. From July 2018, children conceived in this way will be able to find out from a central location whose sperm was used in the artificial insemination.
The register is based on the "Act regulating the right to know parentage in the case of heterologous use of semen" (SaRegG), which was passed in July 2017. Among other things, it provides for data transfer obligations for collection facilities (RE, commonly known as "sperm banks") and medical care facilities (EMC) that perform artificial insemination with donor sperm.
Anyone who suspects that they were conceived through sperm donation in a medically assisted artificial insemination after the law came into force and is at least 16 years old is entitled to information. For younger children, the legal representatives can apply for information (e.g. the parents).
Please note that the sperm bank will be closed during the Christmas holidays from 22.12.2025 to 06.01.2026 inclusive.
The last shipment of samples will take place on 16.12.2025 and will resume on 08.01.2026.
The regular processing time for shipping is up to 16 working days and may be extended due to the holiday period.
Thank you for your understanding.
