Fertility preservation with trans identity
If you would like to have your sperm sample frozen at the Erlanger Samenbank, please contact us by telephone (09131/89 84 11 or 0170/ 709 55 51) or by E-Mail.
Make an appointment with a doctor at the Erlanger Samenbank with a subsequent appointment for sperm collection and (if possible) do not ejaculate for 3 days beforehand.
Please register for your appointment at the Kinderwunsch Erlangen reception.
• Your insurance card
• The completed questionnaire before the visit
At the appointment, you will first have a medical consultation at our facility, to which you are welcome to bring a companion. You will also receive all other contract documents, which you can view here (Storage contract for sperm samples, Costs for self-paying cryopreservation).
We will then take a blood sample to exclude HIV/hepatitis B and C, as required by commercial law. You then give us your sperm sample in a sterile cup in a quiet room. As a rule, we will inform you within a few hours (the next day at the latest) about the quality of the semen sample and, if necessary, recommend that you provide another sample at a later date. Allow approximately 90 minutes for the entire visit.
Finally, if you wish, you and your doctors will receive a written report of the semen quality and the number of frozen straws (sample containers) by mail.

The nationwide sperm donor register has been in place since July 2018. It stores personal details of sperm donors and recipients in connection with medically assisted artificial insemination for 110 years. From July 2018, children conceived in this way will be able to find out from a central location whose sperm was used in the artificial insemination.
The register is based on the "Act regulating the right to know parentage in the case of heterologous use of semen" (SaRegG), which was passed in July 2017. Among other things, it provides for data transfer obligations for collection facilities (RE, commonly known as "sperm banks") and medical care facilities (EMC) that perform artificial insemination with donor sperm.
Anyone who suspects that they were conceived through sperm donation in a medically assisted artificial insemination after the law came into force and is at least 16 years old is entitled to information. For younger children, the legal representatives can apply for information (e.g. the parents).
Please note that the sperm bank will be closed during the Christmas holidays from 22.12.2025 to 06.01.2026 inclusive.
The last shipment of samples will take place on 16.12.2025 and will resume on 08.01.2026.
The regular processing time for shipping is up to 16 working days and may be extended due to the holiday period.
Thank you for your understanding.
