Fulfill your desire to have children
What does it mean to start a family through sperm donation? What perspectives are there – apart from the medical one? How do couples who decide to take this route fare, how do the donors or the children fare?
We, the doctors at the Erlangen Sperm Bank, only use sperm samples from qualified and trustworthy donors whose suitability for sperm donation has been determined by us personally, both in health examinations and with regard to their character maturity and motivation.
In addition, we strictly adhere to the guidelines of the guidelines of the Donor Insemination Working Group, in which all doctors and institutions in Germany involved in the collection, storage or treatment of donor sperm are organized.
Treatment with our samples can be carried out either at our affiliated practice Kinderwunsch Erlangen or at a center for reproductive medicine near your place of residence.
Our aim is to offer you security and clarity on your path to parenthood. Here you will find an overview of the legal regulations on starting a family with donor sperm. If you have any further questions, we are of course there for you.
The nationwide sperm donor register has been in place since July 2018. It stores personal details of sperm donors and recipients in connection with medically assisted artificial insemination for 110 years. From July 2018, children conceived in this way will be able to find out from a central location whose sperm was used in the artificial insemination.
The register is based on the "Act regulating the right to know parentage in the case of heterologous use of semen" (SaRegG), which was passed in July 2017. Among other things, it provides for data transfer obligations for collection facilities (RE, commonly known as "sperm banks") and medical care facilities (EMC) that perform artificial insemination with donor sperm.
Anyone who suspects that they were conceived through sperm donation in a medically assisted artificial insemination after the law came into force and is at least 16 years old is entitled to information. For younger children, the legal representatives can apply for information (e.g. the parents).
Please note that the sperm bank will be closed during the Christmas holidays from 22.12.2025 to 06.01.2026 inclusive.
The last shipment of samples will take place on 16.12.2025 and will resume on 08.01.2026.
The regular processing time for shipping is up to 16 working days and may be extended due to the holiday period.
Thank you for your understanding.
