Because you exist
For greater recognition of donors
With our “Because you exist!” initiative, we want to promote more understanding and respect for sperm donors. Men who are willing to donate their sperm give parents the chance to have a child together, a true desired child. They deserve the same respect as other generous people – whether they are blood donors, bone marrow donors, organ donors, volunteers or others who give of themselves.
Being a sperm donor means giving people a great help. It is a charitable and responsible act.
Read our brochure for more background information on donating sperm.
Anyone who chooses to be a donor is not only doing something for couples who have been unable to have children.
They also receive information about their own fertility, regular free health checks, and reimbursement for every donation they make. However, as a scientific study shows, money is not the main motivation for donors. They see the compensation as just that: a compensation for travel costs and time invested.
Every year in Germany, about 1000 children are born after a medical donor sperm treatment. These children are real wished children.
Contrary to information to the contrary, the risk of a sperm donor having to pay alimony for a child conceived with his semen is rather theoretical and very low. Couples who wish to become pregnant through donor sperm sign contracts in which they agree to indemnify the donor against any financial claims.
